North Carolina road trip - the day of adventures

cemetary 8

So I dropped Virginia off at her location for the day a little before 8:30 am. She had people to meet with and I had until at least 3:30 to explore the area. With some maps and directions from well-wishers, I decided to drive around and acclimate and look for things that might be good stops along the way.

I found the tourist information center for Old Salem, and drove the streets of
Old Salem, and then found the North Carolina School of the Arts which looked like a welcoming and wonderful place with all their colorful flags flying. I found the Arts District... the reason I had come along on this trip, and I looked forward to coming back here when things opened up for the day. I drove some more and spotted some things to come back to, and by now had figured out the traffic pattern of this small city. I liked it here immediately.

I found Cemetary Road from my map, and decided to take a walk in the cemetary with my camera. It was a beautiful, rambling old cemetary that had grown down and over hillsides over time, and the clusters of old graves could be spotted here and there along the way on the hilltops. Some headstones were draped with confederate flags and there was some really beautiful old statuary....

More to come.
