mad skills

I started painting houses in high school to make some extra money..... in the little Pennsylvania town that Virginia and I lived in there were not a whole lot of job opportunities. The skills learned came in handy over the years in fixing many gallery walls and my own walls as I moved my art collection around.

I spent a lot of time yesterday spackling, sanding, and painting some walls in need of repair along with the rest of a long list of things needing to be accomplished. Fixing walls is a good, mindless, contemplative activity that is actually quite beneficial for the soul.

Late in the day I put another topcoat on the heart canvases and I am anxious to see how they dried overnight. Hopefully one more coat to go. Then I will get back to work on the waterlily painting and there is still some shopping to do for the studio-warming.... wine and sparkling cider to buy, catering to order, maybe some bunches of red latex helium balloons to decorate the space.... and chocolate.... we need chocolate. I am enjoying every second of this time.

Oh yes, chocolate, I agree. I like painting walls, too, but don't enjoy the prep work. I'd like someone else to spackle and sand - I'll be there when the paint's ready to roll!
