snapdragons complete

I am so excited that a feature on a TODL email yesterday yielded 27 new contacts... architects and designers interested in my work. I have been addressing packets and postcards and creating a call list this morning...... ZOOMMMMMMM! Gotta run!

sign up for the 2011 WPA Directory

pink green succulent

I am delighted to be a member of the Washington Project for the Arts.... an amazing and hard-working organization with a small and dedicated staff. They do tremendous things to promote the arts, and I want to promote them! They provide me with an ArtFile listing here.

The BOOK is coming!

If you are an artist living in the metro DC area, the time has come to once again sign up for the bi-annual four color directory for established and emerging artists throughout the Washington region. This guide "is seen by more than 2,000 galleries, curators, art consultants and interested art patrons. Copies are distributed to selected art critics and other members of the press, and to museums both in the region and outside the area. The 2011 Artist Directory will also be available for sale on the WPA website and at select area retail locations at the price of $9.95."

The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2011.

plan b

mixed media possibilities

So.... the bird house idea will not work with these thicker canvases.... so I am doing 40 canvases similar to those heart canvases for valentine's day with new colors and new designs. Hearts, stars, and possibly spirals......... and then I will have to hunt for narrow profile canvases for the other project.

little gems

3 eggs and a beaded nest process

In re-arranging the studio there is now more room to show inspirational stuff and mixed media in process.... which is always fun. Some recent shopping excursions afforded the Italian glass tile squares that will line the inside back of the 1800's drawer with the handwoven birds nest in it.... so I will get on to finishing that piece soon. I will paint and speckle the little wooden eggs in some sort of blue-green + brown combination.

I have two more similar 1800's drawers and one extra that is an odd shape that I will have to figure out how to work with. They all came housed in a WONDERFUL old-fashioned radio cabinet that will become a separate mixed media piece. I think I will make the three drawers to hang on the wall... they each have little white procelain knobs.

mis-fire

pink harmony stones

gray harmony stones

yellow harmony stones

Several alarms went off at 4 am this morning...... we had decided to rise early and drive to the Delaware shore.... but when we woke at 4 am we conferred and realized we had both not gotten a lot of sleep, and with a three hour drive there and back we decided to bail on our plans, quiet all the cacaphony of alarms, and go back to sleep. I got up at 8:20 this am (chuckling) unheard of for me.

A change of plans and who knows what the day will bring now, but I had a great work day in the studio yesterday arriving at 8 am, finishing and hanging the three new stacked stones paintings (each 12 x 36) on the studio wall before cleaning up the studio and heading home early evening.

40 six by six canvases await, ready to be transformed into lovely and fetching birdhouses with a recycled element for holiday sales..... more on that soon!

working hard and hardly working

new sun 115

Lots of great things are happening in the studio. Yesterday I completed the yellow stones painting (did not take the camera because of all the rain!) and am on to the the final piece of this triptych, which will be gray stones. After that I am starting a fun holiday sales project that will be small 6 x 6 canvases turned into bird houses........ you will just have to wait and see the process photos as I begin!

I was emailing with an artist friend yesterday that there will never be enough time to do all that I want to do in the studio, and she said there will (as a kindness, I think)...... there are just not enough hours in the day to get all the work in my head out on paper and canvas, and into little
boxes. Maybe that is the best life of all.... to have the challenge of doing as much as you can.
