new year's tradition

There's this tradition that has developed over time you see... a tradition of getting our feet wet sometime on New Year's day to celebrate new beginnings and the promise of the new year. This year we bundled up and headed for a creek along the Potomac, wearing warm boots and heavy socks and carrying water shoes. We found an accessible sandy spit and leaned on each other while we changed shoes. Of course, I was the first one in the water and it was SHOCKINGLY cold, but my feet went numb fast:) People walked by on a trail above us looking a bit puzzled by our antics and I waded around looking at rocks.... a constant habit of mine. We rang in the new year properly and quickly changed back to warm footwear, coming home to drink hot chocolate and play scrabble by the fire.

To say the water was COLD was an understatement.... however, all ten toes survived and the feeling has come back. LOL.
Thanks for a great New Year's Day.
