salon - an artful conversation

studio doorway

Last night Missy Loewe and I hosted the first salon - an artful conversation at my studio and gallery with a list of invited participants from the arts community in metro DC. A circle of chairs was set up in my gallery and 13 participants, artists and arts professionals, gathered to meet and greet and set some ground work for the group that will come.

As everyone introduced themselves the depth of the talent in the room was evident, and I think everyone was excited by the possibilities of nurturing a group for networking, inspiration, support, and growth that will help to build a greater community in this area. We will be planning dates for the next several months, and participants will be included on a first-come, first-served basis to a count of 15 participants..... with the possibility of expanding the group to a larger number breaking into several discussion groups in a larger venue if we see a lot of interest as the group grows.

It was a fantastic evening and Missy and I were both so pleased with this beginning.

salon – an artful conversation

Glen Echo, MD

We’re looking to gather together a unique group of people of varied backgrounds and disciplines who are artists, writers, art enthusiasts, creative professionals, and inspired souls to converse, network, exchange ideas, and learn and grow. Modeled loosely on the long ago salons in Paris, our salon will have a thoroughly modern twist, and will work to build community and new relationships in the metro DC area.

If you think outside the box, and are open-minded and inventive, this continuing conversation may just be the place to flesh out ideas and explore possibilities with other curious souls who believe that face-to-face interactions are STILL the best way to get to know someone. Shut off the computer for an evening of lively and entertaining discourse where we will mingle, muse and dream in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. You never know who may show up or what surprise may be in store for the evening, but from our growing mailing list of willing participants, the first 15 who respond to the invitation each month will have the opportunity to participate in that month’s salon at Judith HeartSong’s studio and gallery in Glen Echo, Maryland.

Judith HeartSong and Missy Loewe, both active in the arts community for decades, have teamed up to form This Way Up, an innovative art business education and services firm. As a service to artists and other creative professionals, they will be hosting monthly get togethers, and want your ideas and input about how these events should be scheduled, formatted, and run to best serve the needs of the group.

Dear Judith and Missy,
it is wonderful that you have started a salon. I am a member of Suzi Gablik's salon in Blacksburg and I can not tell you how important it is to me to have free flowing meaningful conversation with like minded souls.
All the best with it
kindest regards
simone

Dear Simone,

Hello to you!!! I have wanted to start a salon for years, and a while back I read an article about Suzi's salon. I contacted her and she kindly advised me about how best to make this work, and Missy and I owe her a debt of gratitude for sharing knowledge and expertise! I loved the video she sent me of one of your salons..... terrific piece!!!

Let me know if you are ever in DC...... I would love to visit you all as well!

Here's to conversation!
