the tiger is finished.... on to the next!

She's all finished, just waiting for the right light to photograph her and then sign her - there was a lot of glare from the windows when I took this shot yesterday....... I already have reference images for the next animal.......

the tiger's face

tiger face

The tiger's face is almost completed.... to be followed by a little work to define the fur on the body. I love that the painting is very loose and gestural, and I want to keep that same feeling in the upcoming portraits of other animals.... along with my surreal twist.

a trio of postcards made from watercolor fragments

dentzel carousel trio of cards

dentzel lion

dentzel carousel trio backs

I made a trio of postcards, created from fragments of a watercolor of the Dentzel Carousel (at Glen Echo) that I painted as I taught a workshop recently.... the animal theme continues:)

I tore bits of the painting with a steel ruler and affixed them to another sheet of watercolor paper to make the card sturdy for mailing. They will be mailed out as is, and whatever happens as they travel will become a part of the piece.

a workshop with a dish to pass

shrine before milagros

A local writer and friend of mine has scheduled a very special birthday celebration at my studio. Her invited guests will enjoy a private workshop making personal shrines together for an afternoon, learning a lot about mixed media in the process, and partway through the day we will break for food and drink. I am so delighted to host her birthday get-together and we will have a great time.
