a cabinet FOR curiosities
Many years ago I was shopping at a huge and popular flea and antique market in Mount Dora in Central Florida where I regularly looked for treasures and furniture to refurbish. I found a gorgeous turquoise distressed wall cabinet that I just immediately fell in love with. I walked the flea market with my children and came back once again to look at the cabinet before leaving for home.... deciding against the purchase.
I came back to the flea market the next weekend to see if the cabinet was still there, and it was gone, snapped up I'm sure by another savvy collector who saw its potential. It is one of maybe three purchases in my lifetime that I have regretted not making.... these purchases were not expensive or important..... the items were just something that spoke to my artist's soul in being something I wanted to live with and enjoy the beauty of.
In this new world of bedbugs and their infestations of used furniture and other items (I think I read somewhere that bedbugs can sit dormant in furniture and other items for up to 18 months - gak) I am much more hesitant to bring recycled finds into my home without knowing their history - also reading that some people will sell infested furniture and belongings to try to fund their new furniture purchases - imagine that....... egad. Shivers of revulsion to follow.
I have been looking at furniture recently with Virginia and I found a cabinet that I just fell in love with...... looking at it for days online before I showed it to Virginia yesterday while we were in the midst of a flurry of activity here in our apartment.
She liked the piece as well, measuring 43x43x16 with 26 drawers marked by each alphabet letter, and I finally decided to place the order for it - on sale and with a coupon that I had. I got my order confirmation last night and my card has been charged for the purchase, and when I looked at the piece on the website again this morning it is now listed as a discontinued item.
I called customer service and checked on my order this morning at 7 am, and Veronica believes I got the very last one at the warehouse, making me so glad that I did not wait any longer to make the purchase! I am looking forward to seeing the piece in person, and I imagine it in our entryway.... a place to keep keys and mail and assorted things that need a home near the front door in all those great drawers.
The flow seems to be working just fine........
and we are now at just 11 days and counting....... big, really big.

Great find! And what a conversation piece it will be.
