March salon - an artful conversation
TWO special guests will be joining us for our March gathering.
Conversation :
ISABEL MANALO
Isabel Manalo will be talking about the importance of carving out a creative practice in the context of work, family and social obligations. She will explore the significance of having a holistic practice that endeavors to connect the personal, public and private realms towards a process that is contemporary, driven by passion, a strong work ethic, and committed to community building. She will discuss her experience as an artist, parent, academic and now a founder and director of the non-profit web journal The Studio Visit, a journal that features contemporary artists in their studios. She will end by discussing her second solo exhibition at Addison Ripley Fine Art Gallery titled "Bits of Elsewhere" that is on exhibit from March 10 - April 16 with an opening reception on March 31.
WENDY ROSEN
Wendy Rosen (of the Rosen Group, The Buyers Market of American Craft, Niche Magazine and AmericanStyle Magazine) has asked to join us to talk about arts advocacy and her run for Congress. There is a groundswell of support building for Wendy because of her strong support of artists and artisans, and we are delighted that she wants to come and visit and talk about what she so passionately believes in.
This is an important salon and will be extended to run from 6 to 8:30 to accommodate our guests. Bring your friends and join us to hear from Isabel and Wendy in what should be a tremendously inspiring evening in support of art and artists!
Another great evening of sharing and thought-provoking conversation with other tremendous artists and arts professionals from around the metro DC area and beyond.
April 11th - Seth Apter, author of the Pulse of Mixed Media
May 17th - Lisa Gold of the Washington Project for the Arts
June 12th - speaker to be confirmed
***Judith HeartSong and Missy Loewe, both active in the arts community for decades, are teaming up to form This Way Up, an innovative art business education and services firm. As a service to artists and other creative professionals, they will be hosting monthly get togethers, to include artists and arts professionals from the metro DC area.
