wow and woohoo!
a chimney sweep, the nice man who takes care of phone/high speed internet, and a great big moving truck with a crew..................... all sorts of wonderful folks have been at the house checking and working and moving through the crawl space installing things to make life easier, and today the moving truck and a hardworking bunch of guys loaded our belongings - including my grandfather's precious cherry corner cabinet, my colorful moon and sun bench, the huge aluminum sun from my visit to Tuscon, and a large stainless steel sculpture that I adore, for the trip to their new home. All of my rocks will find a place in a new rock garden in the yard..... our yard.
I have been sick for days.... my body finally saying enough is enough with physical stress and exhaustion that manifested as some sort of cold/upper respiratory illness that succeeded in finally slowing me down. Today I stood on the edge of the driveway, directing the movement of boxes and carefully wrapped bundles of art and treasures to the different parts of the house where they will land for unpacking, and after the queen bed was safely delivered to its new place in the guest room we unwrapped new sheets and a new down comforter, wonderful soft sheets and a paisley bedspread. The cherry corner cabinet will reside there, and somehow seeing that wonderful bed and my corner cabinet there.... in this beautiful new space.... finally brought home the reality that we have finally moved.
We bought some bulbs to plant in the front yard, and tonight, even though the fireplace room is loaded with boxes, it feels like home for the first time.... our home.
There is so much work to do before my studio schedule normalizes once again, and who knows what the new normal will look like. I want to enjoy the things that so many take for granted.... planting a garden, finding special furniture that we will love for years and years, cleaning and washing windows and tending to a home place that I hope will come to reflect who we really are in the best sense. Getting to know neighbors...... hearing the kids laugh and play out on the cul de sac.... sitting quietly on the back porch to watch the sun set.
Finding the new (beautiful) normal.

Welcome home honey!
Virginia
Congratulations on the move! May the new home bring you and Virginia much happiness.
Hope you feel better soon!
May I share an excerpt from this John O'Donohue blessing?
For a New Home
May this house shelter your life.
When you come in home here,
May all the weight of the world
Fall from your shoulders.
May your heart be tranquil here,
Blessed by peace the world cannot give.
May this home be a lucky place,
Where the graces your life desires
Always find the pathway to your door.
. . .
May this be a safe place
Full of understanding and acceptance, . . .
. . .
May this home be a place of discovery,
Where the possibilities that sleep
In the clay of your soul can emerge
To deepen and refine your vision
For all that is yet to come to birth.
May it be a house of courage,
Where healing and growth are loved.
Where dignity and forgiveness prevail;. . .
. . .
May you have the eyes to see
That no visitor arrives without a gift
And no guest leaves without a blessing.
may you both be blessed with much happiness in your new home.
Jeanie
I am so very happy for you and Virginia. The previous commenter left something so beautiful. I hope this will be a peaceful sanctuary that will bring many beautiful memories over the years. "The best is yet to be."
